Unizulu Bidding Farewell To 2024’s Law Final Year Students
The Department of Law at the University of Zululand recently held an Honorary Farewell and Excellence Awards dinner for all its 2024 final year Law students to bid them farewell as they prepare to enter the world of work.
The dinner was held at the University’s Richards Bay Campus on Friday, 06 October 2024, and was attended by distinguished guests, alumni, students as well as staff from the Department and Faculty (of Commerce, Administration and Law).
The annual dinner attracts a diversity of guests from the legal profession and this year was no exception.
“If you read about yesterday’s greatest lawyers, their history will tell you that they contributed and sacrificed an awful lot,” said Advocate Simo Chamane, keynote speaker and UNIZULU alumni. “I wish you everything of the best. The career that you have chosen means that you chose to be men and women of integrity. Even when opportunities arise, always choose to do the right thing. Believe in justice,” said Adv. Chamane.
Kanagie Naidoo, Law Department HoD, thanked staff and students for their contribution to the success of the Department. She reminded students that they can be proud of their Law degrees attained from the University (of Zululand) as it is fully accredited. “After the accreditation and the review process, the LLB at the University of Zululand was indeed accredited. When you graduate during May 2024, you can be proud to have completed your LLB at UNIZULU because we were among seventeen universities that were up for the accreditation. Three universities are at risk of losing their accreditation but I am proud to say that UNIZULU was among the top ten universities that had the programme accredited. We were commended for a lot of aspects that we do in the programme itself and a lot of it has to do with how practical and current our programmes and modules are,” said Naidoo.
Newly elected UNIZULU Student Representative Council President, Lindelani Duze, also delivered an address at the dinner. “UNIZULU has produced excellent judges and lawyers in the country,” said Duze. “As you leave, I would like to wish you everything of the best. Go out there and fly the UNIZULU flag. Make your families proud and plough back to the community. When you truly want something, go after it without limiting yourself with disbelief. The universe will make it happen. Nelson Mandela once said ‘after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb’. Go out there and be responsible citizens,” he said.
