CALL FOR ARTS MANAGEMENT TRAINING APPRENTICES 2024
Two aspirant arts management trainers in the Eastern Cape will receive an opportunity to develop their facilitation, training and mentorship skills.
The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT), South Africa’s premier independent arts and culture funding and development agency, welcomes applications from artists and arts and culture practitioners with practical administration and project management experience and broad-based industry knowledge to participate in the ACT Building Blocks Programme.
With funding from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC), two apprentices from the Eastern Cape will be selected to shadow ACT’s trainers who will present a series of arts management master classes followed by five-month mentorships for selected beneficiaries.
Since inception of the ACT Building Blocks Programme in 2012, more than 500 artists, practitioners, arts and culture organisations and institutions and micro, small and medium-sized creative enterprises completed ACT’s master classes focused on governance for arts organisations, marketing for arts projects, monitoring and evaluation of arts projects and leadership in the arts.
Apprentices will work hand-in-hand with the trainer, learning from and contributing to the presentation of the four master classes and the subsequent mentorship engagements. The apprentices will provide support to the trainer throughout the process, getting first-hand training, research, facilitation and mentorship experience. Additionally, the apprentices will strengthen their administrative skills as they will act as a liaison between the ACT secretariat and master class participants, ensuring that all participants receive relevant information and course content related to the master classes, as well as processing assignments, feedback forms and other required documents.
This part-time training opportunity will suit two individuals who have a passion and commitment for arts development. The following tasks will be expected of the apprentices:

- Familiarise themselves with master classes curricula and meet with the trainer in advance of the classes for planning and preparation.
- Assist trainers with master class preparation.
- Apprentices must attend and assist the trainer with the presentation of the two-day master classes.
- Liaise with the ACT secretariat, trainers and participants in order to confirm logistics of the master classes and mentoring sessions, including but not limited to collecting and distributing necessary information and documents, confirming individual timeslots for the mentorship engagements and assist with making travel and accommodation and catering arrangements.
- Take ownership of all communications with master class participants.
- Be present and assist the trainer with the presentation of the two-day mentoring sessions, which will happen monthly from August to December.
The apprenticeships will commence mid-May and end in mid-December 2024. The stipend for the entire engagement is set at R15,000 per apprentice. Interested candidates can apply here
