CALLOUT FOR GROUP EXHIBITION WHAT ART IS FOR

Applications are open for a group show in a new gallery space in Woodstock Cape Town, mid-March 2024.

Callout for group exhibition What art is FOR
Deadline 20 February
Background: based on the premise of Alain de Botton and the School of Philosophy that “Art is important, but it’s hard to agree on what it DOES”, this co-curated show seeks to explore a range of effects of the art object on the emotions, ideas and worldview of the viewer. Of course this does not exclude activism or the artist’s agenda; it asks how does this work? Exactly how does the artwork shift the consciousness or position of the viewer in order to effect the artist’s programme?
Participants are responsible for transport of their own works, plus a small contribution to publicity, promotion and walkabouts or workshops.
All works will be for sale. Spaces to be filled as suitable works, with a range of interesting ‘effects and purposes’ are confirmed. Please send expressions of interest, with 3 or more images of available work, CV and a brief outline of how your works affect, influence and change their intended audience to janran@cybersmart.co.za
