COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR ZEITZ MOCAA
Zeitz MOCAA is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the Director of Communication in their day-to-day activities.

Salary: R 216,000 annually, R 18,000 per month (full cost to company with all deductions, including Pay as You Earn, Unemployment Insurance Fund Contributions, health insurance, and any other government mandated deductions, withheld from this amount).
Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a public not-for-profit contemporary art museum which collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits twenty-first century art from Africa and its Diaspora; hosts international exhibitions; develops supporting educational and enrichment programmes; encourages intercultural understanding; and guarantees access for all. Zeitz MOCAA is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the Director of Communication in their day-to-day activities.

Primary Purpose of the Job
This person will conceptualise and execute proactive public relations programmes for museum exhibitions and provide PR and marketing support for artists, donors, museum programmes, special events and acquisitions. The purpose of this role is to coordinate internal and external communications as well drive press coverage by building strong media relationships. The Communications Coordinator is the liaison between the museum’s internal departments and will coordinate all communication matters, in conjunction with the broader team. The role is a support function to the Director of Communication. The co-ordinator will act as the support for all marketing and PR matters.
Key Performance Areas
- Serve as press contact for local, national and international media requests; maintain a robust network of contacts with art critics, editors, feature and freelance writers, broadcast producers and online journalists to secure extensive press coverage.
- Assist with production of presentation and press materials as needed.
- Collaborate with internal departments, curatorial and design teams and outside consultants/agencies
- Oversee day-to-day operations of communications department, including coordination of press previews; implementation of press release schedule; tracking and reporting press coverage; coordination of visual assets; identification and development of story angles, preparation of press materials, and liaison with museum’s Digital Platforms Curator for website and social media content.
- Drive the creation of marketing collateral such as mailers, brochures etc
- Write and edit press materials; pitch journalists; coordinate interviews; media train/prepare spokespersons; conceptualise and execute press events.
- Arrange photography for events and programmes, including major fundraising galas.
- Assist with media relations in crisis situations.
- Represent the department at internal and external meetings in lieu of the Director of Communications as requested. Liaise with other museum departments.
- Maintenance of the department database; analytics; and reporting on activities.
- And other duties as assigned.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or other relevant discipline, Marketing or related field (PR/Journalism/Political Science)
Experience
- 3+ years of relevant marketing experience/ corporate and consumer marketing communications experience
- Strong working knowledge of marketing communication practices.

- Good speech writing skills
- Ability to effectively multitask and coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints and completion within deadlines

- Ability to create, adapt and edit copy/content for marketing activities (advertising, brochures, etc.)

- Business acumen as demonstrated by the ability to organize, clarify and communicate complex or ambiguous ideas effectively to various internal constituents.
- Ability to distill communications content into effective presentations for executive management, and other team members.
