The purpose of this position is to manage the Health, Safety, Security and Safeguarding of all Pearson South Africa properties (Learning Services as well as Direct Delivery), ensuring that all facilities are aligned to the Corporate Health and Safety and Security strategies and the Pearson brand in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
Main duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate all appropriate physical security strategies (including but not limited to man-guarding, electronic and technological security infrastructure) and activities for all locations
- Conduct regular risk assessment reviews for all locations, events and functions and implement appropriate solutions to mitigate identified risk
- Ensure service delivery of all contracted security service providers in accordance with the Pearson Security Strategy. This will include:
- Ensure providers perform according to agreed service levels and to trouble-shoot any issues that arise (oversight of guard rotation shifts, serviceability of equipment, adherence to standard operating procedures and directive on deviations from procedure)
- Hold security service providers to account for any breaches or non-conformance to service agreements
- Implement ad hoc security services based on ongoing risk assessments and business requirements
- Be present for handover from nights shifts into days’ shifts and trouble-shoot any issues
- Manage and provide leadership on governance of access control policies and adherence to overarching security operations procedures
- Ensure correct investigations into any loss, damage or other incidents affecting property, visitors or staff are conducted and completed in timeous manner
- Responsible for first line management of a diverse team of Security Providers and their Officers
- Coordinate and manage the consolidated incident management system in use and to act as key contact for all escalated and operation issues involving any safety, security and safeguarding issues
- Carry out internal compliance audits, reviewing and updating live electronic logs on the shared storage cloud.
- Ensure compliance with the OHS Act (Act 85 of 1993) as well as adherence to and promotion of the Pearson Global Health and Safety Policy and objectives
- Ensure adherence to the Pearson Safeguarding Policy
- Ensure compliance with FM Global standards as required
- Undertake all required Health, Safety, Security and Incident reporting in relation to regulatory and Pearson Global Policy requirements
- Formulate annual operational and capital budgets and revised forecasts for the function and manage all costs incurred against budget
- Ensure adherence to the PSA procurement strategy
Job Requirements:
- PSIRA approved training and registration
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the OHS legislation and the ability to see the broader picture in managing health and safety in the workplace
- Knowledge and understanding of correct investigative procedures
- Proven experience in managing others in a manager or supervisory role
- Experience in client management and security manned guarding
- Experience in working with large groups
- Flexibility, reliability & being able to work days / nights & weekends to meet the needs of the business
- Working knowledge of security systems; including CCTV and access control operating systems, and the compliance of security procedures to ensure effective security operations and service delivery for the client
- People skills and a high standard of customer service will need to be demonstrated
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong verbal & written communication skills, including report writing and general communications via email
- Attention to detail is necessary with a strong approach to safety and security governance in conjunction with the businesses auditing obligations
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Natural leadership with a ‘winning hearts and minds’ attitude and setting an example to others
- Experience of scheduling, working with shift patterns and Time Gate desirable to ensure the fulfilment of core hours
- Knowledge of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act and the Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment Act
- Have an understanding of general employment law and HR practice, particularly in relation to manned guarding operations

Experience
- 5 + years of progressive experience in Safety and Security management
- At least 2 years middle management experience in managing a man-guarding solution
- Demonstrated experience in financial, risk / compliance, operational and project management

Qualifications
- Appropriate National Diploma or Bachelors degree
