Responsibilities:

  • Due to the nature and size of the organisation it is not possible to provide a complete and comprehensive list of responsibilities. Responsibilities may change from time to time in consultation with the head of programme.
  • Provide academic leadership and ensure the quality and success of all IT modules provided to the faculty’s clients including, amongst others, students, parents and the community.
  • Manage, monitor, develop and evaluate the IT programmes and modules within the Faculty
  • Active participation in teaching and supervision (maximum of 10 – 12 lectures a week).
  • Active participating and provide expert leadership within the Programme Advisory Committee of the Faculty.
  • Liaison with academic colleagues and relevant expertise in the field and industry to ensure ongoing development and quality of the IT modules.
  • Participation, where relevant, in the liaison between MGI and the CHE, HEQC, Department of Education, IT Professional Bodies and other similar bodies, in terms of regulatory affairs and audits.
  • Participation in updating of relevant academic policies and procedures.
  • Academic monitoring of the IT modules, including but not limited to attendance, lecturer evaluations and module evaluations.
  • Ensuring the successful functioning of advisory boards for the subject discipline in the Faculty.
  • Control and quality assurance of all academic activities relating to the IT modules including curriculum development, teaching, assessment and research.
  • Ensuring the quality and maintenance of IT programme and module outlines, class notes, booklists, readers and all other teaching materials.
  • Participation, where appropriate, in student registration and administration process including the approval of credits, including recognition of prior learning, condonations and exemptions relating to the IT modules.
  • Managing and monitoring the quality of IT examinations including the external moderation of compiled exam papers and marked exam scripts by external examiners.
  • Assistance with the maintenance of student records in co-operation with the Registrar and academic administration staff where relevant.
  • Overseeing where necessary, in co-operation with the Registrar, internal and external evaluation, accreditation and audit processes.
  • Participation, where relevant, in academic meetings such as the Examination Board, Research committee and Academic Committee.
  • Participation, where relevant, in management meetings.
General management
  • Chairperson of the programme committee meetings.
  • Overall management of the IT modules, the resources and operations.
  • Coordination of human resources in the IT programmes and modules in consultation with the Dean of Faculty.
  • Ensuring that appropriate staff are appointed for the IT modules. This includes the recruitment and selection of staff in conjunction with the Dean of Faculty.
  • Implementation of appropriate orientation procedures for staff.
  • Maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Assessment and motivation of IT lecturers in conjunction with the Dean of Faculty.
  • IT staff and student communication in conjunction with the Dean of Faculty.
  • IT staff and student grievance and discipline in conjunction with the Dean of Faculty.
  • Any other responsibilities as reasonably delegated by the Dean of Faculty.

Qualifications

 

  • A Master Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems and/or Informatics or equivalent.
  • PhD level degree would be preferable.
