The Citizen requires the services of a digital sales manager.
Reporting to the advertising manager.
Purpose of the role
Success in this role relies on a comprehensive knowledge of digital advertising coupled with a proven track record in hitting revenue targets and closing business. Attention to detail and the ability to forecast and delivery of accurate reporting are key attributes in this role.
Accountabilities and performance metrics:
Revenue generation
- Achieve digital target.
- Proactively identifying digital trends and impacts and build strategic digital solutions and contingencies.
- Constantly identifying opportunities within The Citizen.
- Accurate and updated account plans to be maintained.
Staff management
- Recruit and maintain digital sales staff.
- Lead and manage a team, maintain a top level presence at agencies.
- Perform KPA performance reviews with sales team every six months.
- Analyse sales team performance within portfolios and make necessary adjustments.
Digital/editorial
- Close collaboration with the digital team/editorial to ensure all proposals/ideas are achievable within our parameters.
- Ensuring that sufficient ‘out of the box’ ideas are generated and proposed to industry.
- Ensure that competitor activity is closely monitored and that we are one step ahead in terms of offerings and the level of service.
CRM management
- Understand client requirements and optimise processes to meet those requirements.
- Ensure you maintain and grow relationships with clients/agencies.
- Ensure contact surface is correct and managed.
- Entertain clients/agency when and where necessary.
Financial
- Ensure accurate calculations are done for target setting.
- Ensure rates and discounts are managed correctly to ensure the financial viability of the digital unit.
- Maintain sales proposals within the annual budget constraints.
Core competencies required:
Knowledge/experience
- Minimum three years’ advertising digital sales experience and management of sales staff
- Market knowledge and insight
- Ability to establish and maintain business relationships
- Sales or marketing diploma (IMM/AAA) an advantage
- Previous experience within the media industry
- Writing effective and successful proposals
Skills
- Strong digital skills which will include: Statistics, concepts and terminology, benefits and pricing models, key performance metrics and laws/guidelines
- Strong negotiation skills

- Excellent cold canvassing skills
- Strong communication skills
