DUT ENTRANCE REQUIREMENT
DUT entrance requirements, International students minimum requirements for admission to study at the Durban university of technology in 2009.
Applicants who have passed the General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations, must comply with the following basic admission requirements:
A levels and 3 – O levels; OR
A levels and 1 – O level; AND
One of the subjects passed must be English language or English literature; AND
The O – levels must be passed with symbols A, B or C except English language which may be passed at symbol D.
(Notwithstanding (i) and (ii) above any applicant from within the SADC region may be considered for admission provided, as a minimum, they have passed 5 – O level subjects and comply with (iii) and (iv) above.
In addition applicants must comply with any further programme specific requirements.
Other International Qualifications
Other international qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) at full Senior Certificate level or higher. Applicants can get forms from this website: www.saqa.co.za
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is promulgated in the South African Qualifications Authority Act No 58 of 1995 and the Employment Equity Act No 55 of 1998 as a transformation strategy in the South African education system. The University via its RPL Policy, strives to build a viable, sustainable and credible system to implement RPL.
RPL means the assessment of an applicant’s previous non-fmral and informal learning and experience to determine the extent to which this meets the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry or access into a specified level of study at the University. A variety of assessment methods is used to determine the relevance, depth and extent of an applicant’s prior learning.

The University accepts “Mature Age” students who meet the following requirements:
i Are at least 23 years of age in the academic year in which they wish to comment studies.
ii Have worked for at least three years in the field they wish to study.
iii The Council of the University shall be satisfied that the standard of communication skills of the person, and his ability to study successfully are such that he should be able to complete the proposed instructional programme.
