Call for 2024 Annual Progress Reports for 2024 Funding
The 2024 Annual Progress Reports (APRs) have to be completed by NRF students/fellows funded in the 2024 academic year that require continued funding for their existing NRF-funded project in 2024.
This Call for APR applies to the following funding instruments only:
- NRF Free-standing Scholarships and Fellowships
- DST Innovation Scholarships and Fellowships
- Scarce Skills Development Fund Scholarships and Fellowships
- DAAD/NRF Joint In-country Scholarships
- SANHARP Scholarships and Fellowships (not undergraduates)
- Renewable and Sustainable Energy Scholarships and Fellowships
- Professional Development Programme (PDP)
- Desmond Tutu Doctoral Training Programme
- Animal Cluster Scholarships
- NRF Doctoral and Postdoctoral Abroad Programmes
- F’Satie Scholarships and Fellowships
- NRF-TWAS Doctoral and Renaissance Doctoral Scholarships
- NRF-TWAS Postdoctoral Fellowships
- Waste Research, Development and Innovation Scholarships and Fellowships

How to apply:
The 2024 APR, which must include a supervisor’s report AND proof of registration for the 2024 academic year if continued funding in 2024 is required, is available on the NRF Online Submission System at https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za.
Grantholders have to –
- Log in with their User Name and Password; and
- Update CV before completing the APR.
To Access the APR Online
- On the left of the screen, below Quick Links, click on Grantholder Tools;
- Under Grantholder select Progress Reports;
- Click on Open, next to the relevant “Annual Report – M/D and Post Doc” in order to open the applicable sections to be completed;
*Attached is the APR Tutorial which will provide a step-by-step guide on how to complete the APR.
Note:
- Kindly note that, as of 2024, we require proof of registration for students and proof of commencement/continuation of research for postdoctoral fellows to be attached to the APR as an audit requirement.
- DA’s need to remind students to invite their supervisors so that the “Supervisor’s report”, which is a requirement, can be accessed and completed by the supervisor.
- DA’s need to ensure that a “Supervisor’s Report” is included in the APR before submitting the APR to the NRF.
- APR’s with no Supervisor’s and DA Recommendation and no proof of registration will not be accepted.
