Eskom Bursary: Education For Competency
About Eskom
Eskom, established in 1923, is the energy industry of public utility and has become the largest electricty producer in and for South Africa. Eskom is operated by three divisions; Transmission, Generation and Distribution. The power plants in across South Africa are operated coal-fired, Nuclear, Hydroelectric and Pumped Storage, Gas Turbines, and Wind.
Fields Of Study
Eskom bursary is divided into 3 types: Eskom Full Bursary, Eskom Merit Bursary and Scholarship, and awarded in fields that relate with the company’s business and activities and those are:
- University Bursary Fields
Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Accounting, Supply Chain, Computer Engineering, Information Technology (IT), Nuclear Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering
- Technikons Bursary Fields
Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science and Safety and Risk
- Further Education Training Bursary
Control and Instrumentation, Power Plants Operators, Fitters and Turners, Electricians, Millwrights, Welders, Mechanical, Bricklayers, Plumbers and Carpenters
The Criterion For Bursary
Eskom bursary are open for all South African citizen only and other criterion, based on type of bursary, will be listed below:
- University Bursary
- Applicants must provide Matriculation exemption (or equivalent) with technical disciplines Mathematics 60%/5, Physical Science 60%/5 and English 50%/4. Non-technical disciplines average 60%/5
- Provisional letter of acceptance by university and faculty
- Bursars will be selected based on interview, health statement and Psychometric assessment in 2nd year of study
- University of Technology Bursary
- Bursary only for maximum of a three year period including P1 and P2 (National Diploma)
- Applicants provide Senior Certificate with technical discipline Mathematics 50%/4, Physical Science 50%/4 and non-technical disciplines Science 50%/4
- Selection of bursars based on interview and health statement
- FET Bursary
- Bursary for qualified artisan
- Applicants with minimum education of Grade 10 with Mathematics and Science. Expected criteria is minimum of Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
- Bursars selected based on interview and medical statement
Applying For Bursary
The closing date of Eskom bursary is on July 31. All applicants are required to attach the application form with the documents:
- Copy of South African ID
- Latest academic results
- Provisional letter of acceptance or registration from university
- Motivation letter
