About

The IDC bursary is available to applicants who are studying or who intend to study full-time at an accredited South African university or university of technology. Applications from students attending TVET colleges will also be accepted. This is a funding opportunity which will cover tuition, accommodation and textbooks. Please note: this bursary may also be awarded for the purpose of completing compulsory postgraduate studies.

How to apply

Applicants will need to complete the application form in full. It is important that applicants attach all necessary supporting documents to their application. This includes:
– certified copy of your ID
– proof of income of parent/guardian or affidavit stating unemployment
– recent academic results

Service contract

Beneficiaries may be asked to work for the IDC for a period that is equal to the number of years they received funding. Employment is subject to the Corporation’s normal selection procedures, salary and employment conditions.

Qualifying criteria

All applicants need to:
– be South African citizens
– qualify for admission to study at a South African University, University of Technology or TVET College
– have completed Mathematics and Physical Science in matric
Applicants who are already at a tertiary institution will need to have an average aggregate of C and have passed all courses thus far (if this is in the same study field stated in the bursary application)
Applicants will also be required to go for an interview and will be notified about the outcome soon after this stage of the application.
Please note: no bursaries will be awarded for studies at a college or private institution

Allowance details

Tuition and Campus accommodation will be paid directly to the university. Off-campus accommodation will be paid to the landlord, based on the lease agreement between student and landlord. Payment for prescribed textbooks will be made to the service provider after receipt of quotations and relevant documents. The meal allowance will be paid on a quarterly basis.
