Overview
The ideal account manager in our client service team is a highly sales driven, passionate, collaborative, outgoing, creative oriented leader. The right candidate will demonstrate the following skills and take on the below responsibilities.
The main function of the role:
Client management:
- Work closely with the relevant Account Director to ensure overall growth and development of client accounts allocated.
- Meeting profit goals on each account responsible for.
- Liaising with clients at a senior level on a day-to-day basis, including the taking of briefs, discussing strategy and future opportunities and general client communication.
- Delivering sales presentations to high-level executives.
- Promoting the expansion of business with existing clients.
- Working with other senior managers to generate new accounts.
- Completing projects with the production team to a specific schedule and within an agreed budget.
- Using your skills to push clients, and the agency, creatively and strategically.
- Responsible for all aspects of client’s advertising, marketing and events needs, working closely with the production team with regard to the planning, delivery and post event or campaign wrap up.
- Ability to attend client meetings, take a brief and develop strategy and creative solutions.
- Develop lasting relationships with senior client personnel and using Penquin senior management as required to cement relationships at a senior level.
- Applies knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service to our clients.
- Compile competitor reviews and present feedback and recommendations to clients.
- Taking a lead in clients’ marketing and advertising strategies.
Project management:
- Quality control – ensuring the account team adhere to internal systems and guidelines, and a high quality of communication is maintained internally and externally.
- Ability to research new concepts and prepare presentations, project justification and business cases.
- Seeks and participates in development opportunities above and beyond required training.
Active involvement in growth of other team members in the company:
- A climate of sharing is to become part and parcel of the client services team and production team, creative team and the strategy team, should have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas, when appropriate and collaborate with all teams when necessary.
- Should be open in sharing his/her knowledge and should also be open to the input of other teams within the organisation.
- Proactive in making time to spend with other staff in order to transfer skills, discuss projects, brainstorm ideas, attend meetings and the like, when necessary.
Experience level:
- Two to three years of marketing and sales experience on an account manager level in an advertising agency.

- A sound understanding of marketing and advertising disciplines, and knowledge of branding/brand positioning/brand valuation theory.
- Articulate, with stature and credibility. A sense of presence, and sufficiently articulate to persuade others. A very able presenter on all levels.
- Ability to think laterally and analytically.
- An eclectic approach to problem solving, with the ability to be both rigorously analytical as well as intuitive.
- A profound curiosity about the sales and creative process and consumer behaviour and the implications for how we communicate.
- Ability to turn a knowledge of how consumers think into ideas that will build their interest in and involvement with brands.
