The Market Photo Workshop is looking to hire trainers for multiple courses for 2024.

Market Photo Workshop: Call for trainers
1. The Market Photo Workshop seeks a part-time Post Production trainer for both the Foundation and Intermediate courses for 2024.
The appropriate candidate needs to have thorough working knowledge of Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC to students in the Intermediate level.
Each course has classes for 4 hours a week.
Requirements:

  • Post production portfolio of work
  • Previous teaching experience is an advantage
  • In depth knowledge of Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC
  • Knowledge in photographic printing
  • Understanding of digital file management and archiving
  • Patient demeanor
  • Knowledge of Premier Pro and introductory multimedia would be an added advantage


2. The Advanced Programme in Photography seeks a part-time Studio photography trainer for 2024.

The class requires training once a week for 4 hours from April – June 2024.
Requirements:

  • A portfolio of studio photography
  • Thorough experience with photographing medium format analogue
  • Previous teaching experience an advantage
  • Thorough working knowledge of studio lights, light meters, flash kits
  • Thorough working knowledge of studio equipment care


3. The Advanced Programme in Photography seeks a part-time Critical Writing trainer for 2024.

The class requires training once a week for two hours from January – December 2024.
The Critical Writing module focuses on basic and advanced writing skills specific to the field of photography and professional practice. This includes reviewing and evaluating images and exhibitions, interpreting critical texts, understanding and applying different research methods, online literacy, referencing standards, drawing up CVs and proposals, briefs and reports.
Requirements:

  • Critical understanding of Photography
  • Experience in writing on photography and visual culture
  • Strong research skills and knowledge
  • Understanding and knowledge of critical texts on photography and visual culture and discourse
  • Previous teaching experience an advantage


4. The Advanced Programme in Photography seeks a part-time Professional Practice trainer for 2024.

Professional Practice will introduce students to basic business, project management and administrative skills, as well as other aspects of working as a professional photographer, whether as a freelancer or as an in-house photographer: Negotiating a brief with a client, understanding legal and administrative implications, drawing up a financial plan based on a realistic assessment of circumstances, applying for funding for the development and realization of a body of work.
Classes are once a week for 2 hours.
Requirements:

  • Experience in arts management
  • Knowledge of the professional field of photography
  • Project management experience

5. The Advanced Programme in Photography seeks a part-time Visual Culture trainer for the period of January – April 2024. Classes are once a week for 2 hours.
The Visual Culture module unlocks the complexities and impact of photographic image production/dissemination and media within historical and contemporary contexts. Trains students to critically look, read and evaluate visual representations of issues, people and objects in shifting social, cultural and political contexts. Assists students with applying creativity and insight to the making, processing, printing and editing of photographs relative to a specific idea, brief or intention. Imparts a more informed, critical understanding of images and current media, of the use of
technologies and design principles.
Requirements:

  • Knowledge of contemporary discourses around representation in photography.
  • Teaching experience in a similar field.
  • Understanding of photography in Africa and the diaspora.
  • Experience of image analysis and developing images in a series.


6. The Intermediate Course in Photography seeks a part-time Visual Literacy trainer for the period of January – April 2024. Classes are once a week for 2 hours.

The Visual Literacy Intermediate Course introduces students to various genres of photography. Students engage the history, development and conventions of respective genres, with a view toward critical thinking about their contemporary context, and individual responses to these conventions. Concepts such as context and meaning in visual communication are addressed in depth. Students are encouraged to take a critical approach to their image making practice and to be aware of issues affecting contemporary image production.
Requirements:

  • Historical and contemporary understanding of photography
  • Knowledge of visual analysis
  • Understanding how meaning is created in images
  • Storng knowledge of African photography asnd the diaspora
  • Knowledge of contemporary discourses around photography
