Michaelhouse Learnership Opportunity 2024
Founded in 1896 and set in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, Michaelhouse is a leading Anglican Independent Senior Boarding School for Boys from Grade 8 to Grade 12.
Michaelhouse is looking for a motivated young person, who is currently working towards a career in Nature Conservation, to join our intern programme.
Ideally an applicant would either be busy with a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Nature Conservation and wishes to complete this study while working in the Michaelhouse Nature Reserve.
The incumbent will be required to support the management and development of the Michaelhouse Nature Reserve. He/She will be required to participate in and supervise all activities in the reserve including:

The incumbent will be required to support the management and development of the Michaelhouse Nature Reserve. He/She will be required to participate in and supervise all activities in the reserve including:
- Maintaining maps of the reserve for management purposes
- Undertaking biodiversity surveys and participating in related research projects
- Planning and assisting with burning fire breaks and planned burns
- Alien plant removal
- Road, fence and building maintenance
- Management of game and grasslands
- Management of the Nguni herd in the Nature Reserve
- Assisting with the planning and monitoring and of staff tasks and work flows.
- Assisting with boys’ camps and outdoor projects
Ideally the candidate will:
- Have an interest in and an enthusiasm for Nature Conservation
- Be a qualified Nature Guide or have successfully completed at least one year of study towards a diploma or degree in Nature Conservation, and be committed to completing this qualification.
- have a valid driver’s licence
- be fluent in English and isiZulu
- be interested in working with scholars in a nature reserve environment
