About Mintek
Mintek, founded by South African government in 1934, is originally meant as mineral research laboratory. Mintek focuses on developing and transferring new technology in processing, extracting, refining and utilising minerals and mineral products industry, in collaboration with local and international mineral producers. Mintek provides services on Research and Development expertise, service test work and technologies for gold, platinum-group metals, ferro-alloys, base metals and industrial minerals sectors available in numerous laboratory and facilities.
Fields of Study Available
Mintek bursary main purpose is to reach more students who is interested in/currently pursuing undergraduate degrees, honors degrees or Bachelor of Technology in following fields:
- Mathematics
- Chemistry (Geochemistry or Analytical)
- Electrical Engineering Process Control Systems or Electronics)
- Chemical Engineering ( Minerals Processing option)
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Geology (Mineralogy, Applied Geology, Petrology or Economic Geology)
- Physics
- Physical Metallurgy
The Criterion For Bursary
Several requirements in applying for Mintek bursary are:
- Applicants must be South African citizens
- Applicants are accepted at a recognized university or university of technology in South Africa and study full-time
- Applicants are currently studying towards one of the degrees listed above with an overall average of 60% with all successful courses
- Successful bursars must be willing to work for Mintek after graduation and depend on how long they are on Mintek sponsorship
- Successful bursars also will be required to work during vacation or at the end of each academic year until the third year and fully remunerated
Mintek bursary will cover full academic expenses, start from registration, tuition fees, books, accommodation and meals, personal allowance and even transport fees. The bursary only applies for undergraduate and postgraduate degree.
