Purpose of the position: Reporting to the Continuous Improvement Manager, the incumbent of this position will ensure that Mondi is “doing the right thing at the right time in the right way” in terms of operational planning, silviculture, harvesting and transport. The incumbent will also be responsible for the co-ordination facilitation of Continuous Improvement in the Zululand and SQF Business Units
REQUIREMENTS
- More than 5 years forest management experience in Silviculture & Harvesting
- Qualifications:
– Essential – Btech or BSc Forestry
– Desirable – Mtech or MSc Forestry
FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
- Technology transfer
- Information sharing and coaching (extension)
- Silviculture and Harvesting innovation transfer
- Supports and coordinates the roll out and implementation of strategic projects (e.g. modernisation) and facilitates continuous improvement initiatives across Areas a and the BU’s
- Coordinates the roll out and implementation of new policies and procedures (best practices)
- enchmarking of operations
- Auditing
– Certification systems audits (FSC, ISO, NOSA)
– Quality and productivity audits across the BUs contract operations, including critical measures assessments
– Operational policies and procedures compliance - Operational support
– Work study assessments and productivity initiative implementation
– dentifies local research needs
– Assists with budgeting and contractor rate calculations
– Firefighting and leave relief - Continuous Improvement
– Facilitate Continuous Improvement within operations
– Co-ordinate Continuous Improvement initiatives within business parameters
– Co-ordinate between BU’s and Areas as well as with centralised initiatives
– Monitor and provide feedback on initiatives in Zululand and SQF
- Assisting with the development of policies and best operating practices
- Monitoring productivity levels across all operations
- Assisting with the tender process and rate negotiation process
