About the Position
SKA SA requires an experienced MV Electrical Technician to join our team in based in Carnarvon, Northern Cape. The main purpose of this role is to inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul electromechanical and solid state equipment, using a variety of electrical test equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools and equipment.
Minimum education requirement:
SKA SA requires an experienced MV Electrical Technician to join our team in based in Carnarvon, Northern Cape. The main purpose of this role is to inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul electromechanical and solid state equipment, using a variety of electrical test equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools and equipment.
Minimum education requirement:
- Qualified Electrician (Trade Test)
- Certified to work on 22kV and 33kV electrical systems
- Valid motor vehicle license (Eligible for a Prof. Driving Permit)
Minimum work experience required:
- A minimum of 6 years related experience in distribution transformers, MV protection, motors and control circuits, motor/generator sets and standby batteries
- Industrial installation
- MV switching and linking of equipment up to 33kV
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal qualities:
- Wireman’s License
- Accreditation with ESKOM
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Installation of new electrical and electronic equipment and electrical wiring according to the National Electrical Code and company electrical standards
- Maintenance and repairs of electrical and electronic systems for SKA SA facilities and equipment
- Perform high voltage switching and operate generators in support of operations
- Lead a work team in performing maintenance or repair work
- Other related incidental work as needed
- Ensure compliance with, and practice proper equipment clearance procedures
- Perform all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environmental regulations
- Take responsibility for station lockout procedures as mandated by company policy
