Naicker Spins The DUT Cricket Team To Third Place In 2024
A successful T20 tournament has seen the Durban University of Technology Cricket team move up the rankings to third place and also earned right-hand batsman and right- hand off-spinner Theesan Naicker, the ‘man of the tournament’ accolade.
The team recently returned from the University Sport South Africa (USSA) games in Kimberley. The DUT team, which is part of group A because of its outstanding performance, played against the likes of University of Zululand, University of Limpopo, Vaal University of Technology and Walter Sisulu University.
After losing to University of Limpopo in the semi-finals, the DUT team made a comeback when it thrashed University of Zululand leading to a win by 94 runs. Although the team ended up in third place, Naicker who had impressed everyone throughout the tournament with his nine wickets and 139 runs as well as having scored two 50s, walked away with the ‘man of the tournament’ title.
DUT cricket team Captain, Lloyd Kambarani congratulated his team for a successful tournament. “I am proud of the boys, particularly Naicker who just did wonders. Our game will grow stronger from here on, there is no turning back now,” he added
