SPORT, RECREATION, ARTS AND CULTURE DIRECTORATE
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: ART MUSEUM
POSITION CODE: 7191
TASK Grade 14 (R398 172 – R553 572 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art History.
- Valid Code EB driving license.
- Five years’ working experience in a museum and/or academic institution.
Competencies:
- Management skills.
- Communication skills.
- Financial skills.
- Art history research methodology.
Job purpose:
- Developing, promoting and enhancing the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum’s collection and programmes according to an integrated plan, which includes maintaining international standards of musicological practice through research, acquisition and interface with other institutes.
- Preserving and recontextualising the existing collection, in keeping with changing international treads and shifting social referenceswithin South Africa.
- Fostering a progressive policy on the development of the visual arts, with a focus on previously disadvantaged communities.
- Playing a pivotal role in reinforcing the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum’s local and international reputation.
- Promoting the role of the Art Museum as a resource for civic development.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
