VACANCY: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITION NUMBER: P001519
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Senior academic position in Chemical Engineering – undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning, and Biofuels and Bio-energy research.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS…

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering equivalent to NQF Level 10.
  • Must be registered with the Professional Engineer Body – ECSA.

Recommendations:

  • Accredited as NRF rated Researcher is desirable.
  • Membership with a relevant voluntary Associations is desirable.

Other Requirements:

  • 8 Years` teaching and learning experience at a tertiary degree level.
  • 8 Years` research experience as an established Researcher.
  • Sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning.
  • Competent to teach any of the traditional Chemical Engineering topics up to final year bachelor’s level.
  • Competent to lead, plan and perform cutting edge research projects in the field of Bio-energy and Bio-fuels.
  • Competent to provide supervision to Master and Doctorate students in the field of Bio-energy and Bio-fuels.
  • Possess the necessary skills (e.g. technical, management and administrative) for a senior academic position.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
  • A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
  • Expected to be involved in the development of and have responsibility for curricula and programs of study (award courses).
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills – interact with colleagues, industry and students.
  • Effective time-management skills.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
  • The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group.
  • Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
  • The ability to solve problems independently.
  • Good time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Good planning and organising skills as well as good.

JOB SPECIFICATION…

Teaching and Learning

  • Be responsible for at least two chemical engineering undergraduate modules, plus undergraduate projects, as per annual task agreement.
  • The conduct of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations and workshops in these modules.
  • Initiation and development of subject material.

Research

  • Active research and leadership involvement in the group under the SARCHl Chair for Biofuels Research, including post graduate study supervision, as per annual task agreement.

Management and Administration

  • Management and administrative responsibilities in faculty, school, research structures as agreed on annual task agreement.
