About the Position
SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Road Maintenance Supervisor to join our team based in Carnarvon, Northern Cape. The successful incumbent is responsible for supervising road construction and maintenance crews on SARAO property.
Minimum education requirement:
- Grade: 12
- Valid EC vehicle license (Professional Driving Permit)
- Valid certificate to operate a Grader/Backhoe/Loader (essential)
Minimum work experience required:
- Five years ‘experience coupled with a minimum of 2 years’ experience at supervisory level performing roadway, roadside, bridge or sign maintenance
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Supervising the execution of maintenance activities on the roads infrastructure
- Responsible for effective resource allocation, including staff, equipment and plant
- Providing input to the Site Technician for budget issues
- Directing the activities and monitoring of subordinates
- Providing training, guidance and encouragement to assigned roads crews
- Ensuring of road equipment regularly maintained
- Performing of other responsibilities as required or assigned
Ability to:
- work safely and effectively around the public

- perform physical labour with a variety of hand tools
- demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population
- follow written and oral instructions
Experience in:
- mechanical repair
- operating road maintenance equipment
Knowledge of:
- general equipment safety
- maintenance and operation of common hand tools
- field safety regulations
- weed and pest control
- fundamental construction and maintenance procedures
- modern road maintenance and methods
- thorough working knowledge of road works equipment operation
