Matumelo Motaung, a nursing student at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng will attend the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) 44th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, USA from 28 October to 1 November 2024.
She will represent the South African Nursing Students Association (SANSA), a non-profit organisation of nursing students from various universities, as well as all South African institutions of higher learning that offer a degree in nursing.
The convention will be attended by 2 200 STTI nursing leaders from across the globe, and 300 students from the approximately 700 institutions recognized by STTI.
“It gives me a great pleasure to be granted the opportunity to attend the convention,” says Matumelo. “One of the objectives of the convention is to bring together leaders of the health care system from across the globe, and events such as this create a platform that will assist us in establishing networks and to collaborate with organisations and institutions from other countries.”
Matumelo is the national chairperson of SANSA, the provincial deputy chairperson of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa and a member of the Student Campus Council of the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng.
