ACTUARIAL SCIENCE

This is one of the highest paid fields to work in and you need to be passionate about numbers, have an analytical mind, enjoy dealing with detailed data and be interested in probability of risk. You will need a BBusSci or Bsc Actuarial Science and the career path is as follows: Junior Specialist – Intermediate Specialist – Senior Specialist – Actuarial Expert – Specialist Actuary – Finance Actuary – Actuarial COE

FINANCE

Similar to the Actuarial field this is one of the highest paid fields to work in and you need to be passionate about numbers, have an analytical mind, enjoy dealing with complex data and be interested in the finances of companies. You will need a BComm/BBusSci/BTech Finance or a CA qualification. A typical career path is as follows: Accounts Administrator – Financial accountant – Finance Manager – Finance Executive

INVESTMENTS

There are 3 main fields: Asset management, Structured Finance and Multi Management.
Asset Management means constructing high class asset portfolios that offer optimal returns to our investors. Asset Management can include either researching shares or asset classes and making recommendations to portfolio managers, or being actively involved in managing portfolios for clients and making investment decisions on behalf of our customers.
Structured Finance uses sophisticated and proven financial engineering capabilities to generate above average risk adjusted returns for clients. Within the multi manager business, multi managers find the asset managers in the market that are great at what they do, combine them and build multi manager portfolios that deliver on and exceed investor objectives and expectations. The primary focus is growing our customers’ savings and wealth, through an array of active asset management boutiques as well as multi-managed solutions and fund platforms.
You will need BBusSci/BComm/Bsc Maths and Stats. A typical career paths is as follows: Junior Analyst – Senior Analyst – Investment Manager

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

The different fields are Property Management, Property Asset Management, Property Valuations and Property Development.
You will need Bsc Property Studies (Hons). The career paths are as follows: Senior Administrator – Property Manager – Centre Manager/Junior Facilities Manager – Facilities Manager – Senior Facilities Manager/Property Project Manager – Senior Property Project Manager – Construction Management Manager/Junior Investment Analyst – Senior Investment Analyst – Investment Professional

LAW, RISK MANAGEMENT AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

The above includes Audit, Forensics and Underwriting.
These fields look after the set of processes, customs, policies, laws, and institutions affecting the way a corporation (or company) is directed, administered or controlled. You will need BComm or BA LLB/BComm/BBusSci or a CA qualification. The career paths are as follows: Auditor – Senior Auditor – Audit Manager – Senior Audit Manager/Assistant Compliance Officer – Compliance Officer – Senior Compliance Officer/Forensic Assistant – Senior Forensic Consultant – Senior Forensic Manager – Head of Forensics/Legal Secretary – Legal Advisor – Legal Specialist – Legal Executive/Risk Analyst – Senior Risk Officer – Risk Executive

FINANCIAL ADVICE

This field gives you the opportunity to help people, stretch yourself with challenges and if you have tenacity and drive and enjoy meeting sales targets you can reap significant financial rewards. You do not need a specific qualification other than Matric but a Financial Planning degree would advantageous. A typical career path is: Consultant – Advisor – Sales Manager – Area Manager

INFORMATION TECHNOLGY

This field consists of roles that manage, supervise, lead, administer, develop, deliver, and support information technology (IT) systems and services. You will need Bsc Computer Science/Information Systems or a BTech Information Systems.
The career paths are as follows: Architect – Senior Architect – Enterprise Architect/Analyst Programmer – Senior Analyst Programmer – Lead Analyst Programmer/Business Analyst – Senior Business Analyst – Lead Business Analyst/Project Manager – Senior Project Manager – Lead Project Manager/IT Support Specialist – Senior Support Specialist – Lead Support Specialist

CLIENT SERVICE, OPERATIONS AND SALES SUPPORT

This field consists of roles that ensure that the administration of client portfolios happens efficiently and error free and that key resources are supported effectively. You need at least a matric and preferably a relevant diploma. The following are typical roles: Personal Assistant/Administrator/Data Capturer/Call Centre Agent/Secretary and also Team Leader and Operations Manager

HUMAN RESOURCES

This field is all about working with people and looks at driving employee engagement and performance to build lasting value for the company. You will need BComm or BA Human Resources/BTech Human resources/Honours or Masters Industrial Psychology. The typical career path is as follows: HR Administrator – HR Consultant – Senior HR Consultant – HR Manager – HR Executive

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Marketing and Communication often appeals to not only creative thinkers, but also numbers-minded statisticians. While many jobs in marketing are appealing keep in mind that you must be willing to work long hours and not mind working evenings and/or weekends. You must be able to work well under pressure and thrive off meeting deadlines and goals that are set. You will need a B.Comm or BusSci Marketing/BTech Marketing.
