PAST seeks to appoint the services of either a
Job Title: Programmes Coordinator or Administrator
Job Location: Johannesburg
to be based in Johannesburg and ensure that PAST continues to achieve its mission as fully as possible. If you have enormous passion for, an interest in, and dedication to, science education and research in Africa, including the manner in which science can serve society, then this is your opportunity to contribute to PAST’s goals. You could be an experienced Project Coordinator with some formal education in a relevant field, or an excellent, seasoned Administrator who also has an interest in the work of PAST.  This position requires an individual who can perform duties ranging from basic personal assistant tasks to maintenance of high-level donor and trustee relations and assistance with the implementation, and/or support of new projects under the guidance of the Executive.
Key responsibilities of this exciting opportunity include:

  • Basic accounting skills and financial literacy including managing of office petty cash and  account payments plus assisting with compilation of Executive, Board, and donor reports together with the Trustees’ statutory annual reports and annual financial statements
  • Managing of the educational theatre project on a day-to-day basis including: managing of the performers, booking of educator and learner workshops, completing evaluation data and building of relationships with various stakeholders and partners
  • Managing of bursary and research grant programmes, staff travel and special events
  • Managing fundraising, public outreach and educational events
  • Personal assistant duties to executive including basic deliveries, taking meeting notes, managing diaries, arranging meetings and other appointments, assuring professional appearance of office, arranging refreshments for meetings and other personal chores
  • Managing the maintenance of office vehicles including servicing, repairs and insurance as well as purchasing necessary office supplies and equipment

To apply for this exciting and challenging position you must meet the following criteria:

  • You have a minimum of five years’ experience in a busy office or NGO environment
  • You are reliable, trustworthy, independent, flexible, adaptable, self-disciplined and can take initiative
  • You are fluent in English with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • You have excellent and up-to-date computer skills, including Excel, Outlook, MS Word, and PowerPoint and the ability to manage social media and perform basic website management
  • You have great interpersonal skills, especially those required for maintaining relationships with the NGOs Trustees and donors
  • You have reliable transport and a current drivers licence
  • You possess a valid passport and are willing (and excited) to travel within Africa
