The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANB) is offering a one year internship to support the work of the uMngeni Ecological Infrastructure Partnership.

The UEIP is a catchment-wide partnership of key organisations from national, provincial and local government departments, business, academic institutions and civil society; that are committed to finding ways of integrating ecological infrastructure solutions to support built infrastructure in addressing challenges of water security in the uMngeni catchment.

The UEIP came into existence in November 2013 upon signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by these organisation. The UEIP currently comprises of 24 organisations that have formally joined the partnership through signing the MoU. Being one of the founding member organisations of the UEIP, the South African National Biodiversity Institute took the responsibility of providing coordination capacity to the partnership.

The intern will assist with providing support, such as representing the UEIP and giving updates at some of the local platforms and also assisting with some of the coordination activities of the partnership. The intern will develop skills in working through partnerships, communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and improve knowledge of ecological, socio-economic and hydrological attributes and drivers at catchment scale.
Who is eligible to apply? We invite applications from graduates with an Honours degree in Natural, Environmental or Social Science.  Preference will be given to historically disadvantaged individuals. Potential candidates should have good writing and verbal communication skills and an understanding of natural resource management. A valid (unendorsed) Code B drivers’ license is an essential requirement.

Value of internship: The stipend offered is fixed at R7 150 per month (Honours completed). No other benefits apply as this is an internship position.

Duration: February 2024 – January 2024
