SANDF Bursaries: Defending Your Future
About SANDF
South African National Defence Force, headquartered in Pretoria, Gauteng, is the nation’s armed forces created in 1994, after first post-Apartheid national elections and new constitutions.
Available Fields of Study
SANDF bursaries are open for all degrees and all fields of study and bursars are allowed to choose the desired university or institution.
The Criterion For Bursaries
Primary and Secondary students:
- Applicants must complete and submit the official SANDF bursaries application form
- Applicants must attach the required documents: birth certificate, copy of school report on June examinations, ID of the deceased or severely injured SANDF member, death certificate (if SANDF deceased) or medical proof of injuries/degree of injured SANDF member issued by clinic/hospital, proof or registration from school, expenses estimation quotation from school, copy of latest payslip or confirmation letter from employer and other incomes must be declared along with proofs, include pensions
- Applicants must provide the education expenses estimation issued by the schoold on official letterhead of the school
Tertiary students:
- Applicants must complete and submit the official SANDF bursaries application form
- Applicants must attach the required documents stated in the application form: birth certificate, certified copy of Grade 12 certificate, ID of the deceased or severely injured SANDF member, death certificate (if SANDF deceased) or medical proof of injuries/degree of injured SANDF member issued by clinic/hospital, proof or registration from school, expenses estimation quotation from school, copy of latest payslip or confirmation letter from employer and other incomes must be declared along with proofs, include pensions
- Applicants must provide the education expenses estimation quoted and issued by the university on letterhead of the university
- First year students must also attach a copy of Grade 12 June examinations results
- Second year or above students must provide copy of certified latest academic results
Pre-school attendant member of family can contact sandffund1@gmail.com. Applicants from the same family should submit the separate application form for each applicants. The bursaries are awarded for one academic year and to continue, applicants may reapply. The sponsorship continuation is based on the bursars’ academic performance.
The SANDF bursaries cover registration, tuitions fees, uniform, extracurricular, books, accommodation and meals fees and the amount will be considered by the Board of Trustees.

Interested candidates must submit the completed SANDF bursaries application form before 1 October for Senior students (second year of study or above), 15 October for first year Tertiary students and 15 October for Primary and Secondary learners, all annually, and send the whole documents to:
