SAPS Academy Paarl Admission Criteria
The following admission criteria are followed to ensure the recruitment and selection of SAPS members to be enrolled at the SAPS Academy Paarl:
- SAPS REQUIREMENTS
- FULL TIME STUDENTS
Students will study on a full time basis at the Academy - AGE
Prospective students must be at the age of 20 – 30 at the time of registration. - SERVICE EXPERIENCE
Basic training, at least three years’ actual service excluding probation. - CONDUCT
No criminal or departmental cases pending or found guilty - RANK
Constable to Warrant Officer - ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
The medium of tuition is English. Students will be required to pass an English proficiency test as prescribed by the appointed UNISA and the SAPS. - COMPUTER LITERACY
Students must have basic computer literacy. - PSYCHOMETRIC TESTING
Aptitude and integrity tests ans personal inventories – to be conducted by Psychological Services. - HEALTH AND FITNESS TESTING
Comply with the requirements for physical fitness as prescribed by the SAPS.
- FULL TIME STUDENTS
- ADHERENCE TO CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT between SAPS and the members include the following
- Pay university tuition while attending full time studies at the SAPS Academy Paarl
- One year’s work for each year of study plus and additional two years – ie once the students have completed the course over three years, they have to work for five years
- Expected to perform duties of at least 40 working days per each calendar year, to ensure practical learning at station level.
- Should students not pass all subjects owing to negligence, or buying discharge before completion of the course, they could be held responsible for the costs (salary, allowances and study costs) incurred during the period of study.
- Students who fail a subject are not – except in exceptional cases – allowed to study at the Academy again.
- Only students with an average pass mark of 65% and above will be allowed to proceed to the second year of studies on a full time bases.
- ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Before 2008: A matriculation certificate or an exemption certificate form the Matriculation Board for those who attained a D-aggregate in the final matriculation examination.
- From 2009: A National Senior Certificate as certified by Umalusi, with a mark of at least (50% – 59%) in each of the four school subjects from the list of designated university admission subjects.
- Compliance with the programme – and subject specific admission requirements of the progrtamme.
- Adherence to all UNISA requirements.
