1. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Responsible to drive and develop the Forestry business while at the same time maintaining full control of daily operations and auditing log.  Further responsible for the profitability, growth and accreditation management of the Forestry auditing team and developing the Forestry Business.

3. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and growth of the Forestry Business.
  • Auditing both Forest Management and Chain of Custody audits.
  • Assist with the budget in alignment with the business plan.
  • Maintaining of accreditation of ISO 17065 through operational compliance.
  • Appointed Management Representative for the Forestry Division.
  • Adhere to all SGS procedures and CBE Division and Qualifor policies and procedures.
  • Evaluation of all certification standards’ documentation/files.
  • Ensure that certification programs are managed in accordance with SGS, CBE and Qualifor Procedures.
  • Ensure the training, development and motivation of staff.
  • Ensure a good level of internal control within the group.
  • Evaluate and determine improvement criteria.
  • All complaints and compliments are logged, investigated and feedback given to the client, affiliate and or accreditation body.
  • React promptly to client enquiries and ensure service excellence.
  • Monitoring the system to ensure all audit packages are correctly reviewed within the time KPI defined by the personnel assigned.
  • Management of the internal CBE Quality system management, improvement / harmonisation with GSP & GPP’s.
  • Monitoring auditor / sub contract auditor KPI’s.
  • Calibration / training / technical approval of auditors.
  • Accountable for quality of audits carried out in collaboration with the Technical Managers.
  • Delighted and satisfied customer base through qualified, competent, trained and accreditation-compliant auditors.
  • Managing the improvement requests raised through internal audits, customer complaints and non-compliance to procedures, ensuring timeous close-out of all IR’s.
  • Achieved performance targets (objectives).
  • Assist with development of new services/products and concepts for an identified market segment and the procedural compliance which accompanies such development.
  • Assist, develop and train team members to become independent, certification experts beginning with the delivery of their required outputs in terms of the GSP and GPP documents.
  • Promote the image, capability and integrity of the company to clients.
  • Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS statement of integrity
  • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.


4. SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES

  • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection, and report the situation to higher authority to take action to address the hazard.
  • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action to address the issue.
  • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.


5. QUALIFICATIONS

5.1. EDUCATION

  • Matric or equivalent qualification
  • A recognised Lead Auditor’s qualification advantageous.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Forestry and/or Environmental Resource Management.


5.2. EXPERIENCE

  • 5 – 10 years operational experience in business activities.
  • Strong service industry background with small team involvement.
  • Budget compilation and management.
  • Client liaison.
  • Management of a procedural, KPI driven operation.
  • Certification and auditing background advantageous.
  • Background in forestry certification.
  • Commercial experience of timber based product processing.
  • Preferable, experience and/or qualifications as a lead auditor in FSC/PEFC/ISO auditing.
  • At least 5 years experience in operational forest management (planning, harvesting, silviculture, environmental management).
  • Preferable, experience and/or qualifications as a lead auditor in FSC/PEFC/ISO auditing.

  • Candidate will have to pass a psychometric test for forest management auditors.
  • High level of leadership skills.

  • Up to date on latest methodology / technology.

  • Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously.
