SKA 2024 Scholarship / Bursary Programme

The South African SKA Project’s (SKA SA) Grant includes funds for four undergraduate bursaries, plus a grant for outreach and support, to successful universities. SKA SA will consider applications from university departments that propose to support students studying any one of the following areas:  National Diploma, undergraduate and honours.

Requirements

  • South African citizens (ONLY)
National Diploma
  • Students who wish to study, or are studying, one of the following diplomas:
    • National Diploma in Electronics, at the Theory Level
    • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, at the Theory Level
    • Electronic Engineering, at the Work Integrated Learning level
    • Mechanical Engineering, at the Work Integrated Learning level; and
  • Students who have achieved a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 12, or a minimum average of 60% for the theory courses.
Undergraduate
  • Bachelor of Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics AND Physics
  • Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics
  • Bachelor of Science in Astronomy / Astrophysics and Physics
  • Bachelor of Computer Science, with co-major in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science – Honours – Physics and Electronics / Astrophysics / Astronomy / Computer Science
Honours
  1. Students who wish to study, or are studying, towards any one of the following degrees:
    • Bachelor of Electronic Engineering
    • Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
    • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
    • Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering
    • Bachelor of Computer Engineering
    • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics AND Physics
    • Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics
    • Bachelor of Computer Science, with co-major in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
    • Bachelor of Science – Honours – Physics and Electronics / Astrophysics / Astronomy / Computer Science
    • Bachelor of Science – Honours – NASSP (National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme)
  2. Students who have achieved a minimum 70% in Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 12, or a minimum average (grade-point average) of 60% at undergraduate level.
