About the Position
SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Science Educator to join our Carnarvon based team on a three (3) year contract basis. The successful incumbent will be responsible for Physical Science to Grade 8 to 12 learners at Carnarvon High School.
- BSc degree plus PGCE qualification or appropriate Teaching qualification
Minimum work experience required:
- 4 years’ experience teaching Physical Science at high school level
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Planning and teaching Physical Science lessons to Grade 8 to Grade 12 learners
- Managing the science laboratory at the school and ensuring it is adequately resourced at all times
- Ensuring learner participation in extracurricular STEM activities, including Science Expos, Olympiads and Competitions
- Organising the annual Carnarvon High School STEM careers expo
Ability to:
- incorporate ICT in teaching
- develop lesson plans
- motivate learners in the classroom
- assess learner performance
- assist learners with science related projects
- conduct exam preparations especially for Grade 12 learners
- conduct Physics and Chemistry experiments
- display good record keeping and reporting skills
- conduct lessons in fluent Afrikaans
Experience in:
- supervising learners with science related projects
- learner participation in expos and competitions
Knowledge of:
- STEM careers path
- CAPS curriculum
