About the Position
SARAO has an exciting opportunity for Senior Science Processing Developer to join our team based in Cape Town. This role will oversee error and fault reporting, manage ticket allocations and escalations, and liaise with the engineering portion of the SDP with regard to improvement and feature requests.
- BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Astronomy, Computer Engineering or closely related field
Minimum work experience required:
- 8 years’ experience in IT operations, maintenance and management of which 5 years’ experience and knowledge of a Science Data Processor (or comparable scale system) for a scientific facility and 3 years’ experience in systems integration and deployment
Desirable additional educational, work experience, and personal qualities:
- Exposure to the MeerKAT scientific program and familiarity with the science discipline therein
- Knowledge of high performance computing systems and platform tools
- Strong background in appropriate SDLC processes including code versioning, peer review and continuous integration
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Take responsibility for receiving, processing and directing support queries and tickets
- Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, including managing issues and gathering requirements and stakeholder needs
- Develop and direct software testing, verification and validation procedures
Ability to:
- display strong interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate, negotiate, influence and build strong relationships
Experience in:
- and knowledge of agile systems development management approach
- and formal training in Systems Acquisition Management and Systems Engineering
- using Git, Jenkins and other SDLC tools
Knowledge of:
- system service tools such as MESOS and Docker
- the principles, theory and practice of software development, as well as an awareness of broader developments relevant to software development
- and practical application of Python as a development language
- understanding of regulations and procedures and the implications of non-compliance
- systems/services for software development and across functions and how they relate to each other
