Four part-time positions, 3 -6 month contract
Health Systems Research Unit-Pretoria seeks to appoint four experienced, organized and trustworthy fieldworkers part-time over approximately three to six months, to gather data on an infant feeding study. This study seeks to assess the feasibility and impact of a novel based mentorship approach for disseminating the updated 2024 WHO HIV and infant feeding guidelines on infant feeding attitudes and practices of front-line health workers in South Africa.  This project will be implemented through Primary Health Facilities in Tshwane district in Gauteng province.
Fieldworkers will be responsible for collecting data from health care staff, utilizing tablets.  Data will be collected at baseline and end-point assessment. Remuneration will be based on hours worked, rather than a fixed salary.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist participants as they will be completing questionnaires using tablets
  • Administer informed consent (when necessary),
  • Ensure that the completed questionnaire is synced into the central database
  • Ensure tablets are stored safely after data collection and returned to the office
  • Translate questionnaires (when necessary)
  • Ensure that participants put in correct participant ID number on the questionnaire.
  • Update participant register as they complete survey

To be successful, candidates must have:

  • Matriculation certificate
  • Previous research experience – involvement as a data collector in at least one previous research study
  • Proficient with use of mobile technology: tablets and smart phones
  • Willingness of travel to health facilities within the district using public transport
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills using English, Tsonga and Tswana

The following will be advantageous:

  • Drivers license
