Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit, Cape Town
The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit is looking for an experienced, energetic and organized fieldworker to work on project MIND, a trial of a mental health counselling intervention for patients living with a chronic disease. The successful candidate will work within two primary health care clinics in Khayelitsha. They will be responsible for screening and recruiting participants, conducting study interviews on a tablet, tracking participants within the community to retain participants in the study, among other duties.
Data Capturer – Closing date: 12 September 2024

The SAMRC’s Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit seeks to appoint an experienced, energetic and organised data capturer for our Flagship project.Responsibilities will include:

  • Receive Flagship data information for capturing
  • Capture confidential research information
  • Perform quality control checks on data
  • Identify errors on the forms and check missing information or data for correction
  • Verify that the information captured on the source documents is the same as the one captured on the data system
  • Document Management – Filing of documents as per the protocol requirements
  • Update study files and maintain an effective filing system
  • Perform administrative duties.
Research Operations Manager – Closing date: 15 September 2024
DST/MRC- South African Population Research Infrastructure Network, Based: initially Johannesburg, then relocate to Pretoria
The main objective of this job is to develop, implement and maintain standardised operating procedures across a network of Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) Nodes that comprise the South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN). This will include establishing minimum standards to ensure optimal and coordinated research operations across the Nodes. The position includes developing and measuring adherence to minimum quality measures across the Nodes. Currently, there are three Nodes and the network will expand to seven over the next four years. The position also includes coordinating data operations and the maintenance of efficient and cost-effective data collection systems to support the population-based research agenda, as well as maintaining standards of community engagement across the Nodes. The incumbent will also facilitate and coordinate multi-nodal research study operations, including design issues; costing; staffing, logistics and ethics.
Public Engagement Specialist – Closing date: 15 September 2024
DST/MRC- South African Population Research Infrastructure Network, Based: initially Johannesburg, then relocate to Pretoria
The SAPRIN is a national research infrastructure that will produce data, knowledge and evidence for policy makers as well as participating in the development of Science in the country at large. The person in this position will play a leading role in knowledge translation and public engagement. The national research platform will be linked with multiple universities and research councils, covering a breadth of rural and urban settings, with relationships to key government ministries, including health and social development, and will closely interact with cross-cutting public institutions like Statistics-SA and Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency.
