Cannington is one of the world’s largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing a Geotechnical service to the Cannington Operations to ensure Geotechnical risks are understood, monitored and managed.
What the Role Entails

• Geotechnical assessment and input into the mine design, drill and blast, ground support, and paste processes;
• Significant focus on stable stope designs and turn-over of stope assessments;
• Assessing excavation, rockmass and support performance;
• Geotechnical monitoring including design, installation & analysis of data;
• Audits / Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QACQ) of ground support applications & standards;
• Underground data collection & stability investigations;
• Numerical modelling of designs.

About You
The ideal candidate will have

• High levels of safety awareness and acceptance of safety systems;
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering Geology, Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering and/or Post Graduate Geotechnical / Rock Mechanics;
• Previous Geotechnical / Rock Mechanics experience in underground mining, ideally within Hard Rock;
• Proficiency in software such as Surpac, Datamine, Map3D and Microsoft Office will be highly regarded;
• Exposure to the Rocscience suite of software, Voxler and AutoCad would be an advantage;
• Previous experience in completing stope assessments and designs;
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organisation.

Cannington mine provides resort style onsite accommodation with laundry and meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities. This is a FIFO full time role from Townsville or Brisbane on an 8/6 roster.
Location
To be eligible for this position you must reside within a 50km radius of the Townsville or Brisbane Airport.
