Illawarra Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Superintendent Brownfields Exploration, the purpose of this role is to provide leadership, expertise and direction to the exploration field teams/crews to effectively manage planning, scheduling and execution of exploration programs at Illawarra Coal.
What the Role Entails

• Ensure the safe execution of daily exploration drilling activities in accordance with the relevant standards and operating procedures;
• Provide day-to-day leadership, expertise and direction to the exploration team and contract partners;
• Guide and coach individual team members and promote a culture of continuous improvement;
• Provide input into schedules, budgets, and plans as well as the improvement of work management processes;
• Manage contract partners to ensure compliance with South32 standards;
• Coordinate daily exploration activities; including but not limited to drilling, exploration water delivery and removal, geophysical logging and hydrological testing;
• Monitor compliance of exploration activities within the constraints of relevant legislation, licences and approval documents;
• Provide leadership, training and assistance to direct reports; responsible for geological data collection, QA/QC of geological data and seismic planning and acquisition;
• Liaise with internal teams for exploration planning and execution requirements;
• Collaborate with Exploration Supervisor responsible for schedule, site preparation, instrumentation & rehabilitation.

• Tertiary qualifications in Geology;
• Leadership skills and experience particularly in managing contractors, exploration activities and consultants.
• Experience in Sydney Basin Coal Geology is desirable;
• Experience in Geological Databases is desirable;
• Strong planning and organisational skills;
• Able to effectively communicate with multidisciplinary teams.
