About the Position
SKA SA seeks to appoint two (2) Systems Administrators who will be responsible for the Operations and Support to the MeerKAT Radio Telescope.
Minimum education required:
SKA SA seeks to appoint two (2) Systems Administrators who will be responsible for the Operations and Support to the MeerKAT Radio Telescope.
Minimum education required:
- National Diploma or equivalent in Information Technology or Information Systems
Minimum work experience required:
- 5 years in a Linux and Networking operational environment
Duties include but not limited to:
- Ensure maximum network availability and reliability
- Daily network performance monitoring
- Manage maintenance and support contracts with equipment vendors
- Implementation of network monitoring and reporting tools
- Establishment of support resources e.g. spares, test equipment, tools and facilities
- Manage escalations to ISPs and equipment suppliers
- Provisioning of new network services via change control processes and in conjunction with Science, Control and Monitoring Infrastructure teams
- Configuration of Firewall Security policy
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal qualities:
- Vendor certifications such as LPIC-2 or greater would be desirable
- Server Virtualisation experience using KVM based hypervisor
- Knowledge of IP protocols. Firewalling and Security
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience of having worked in, or with a scientific research organisation
- Proven experience in Project Processes (i.e. System Engineering, Configuration Management and Supply Chain Management)
