The Nova Pioneer Apprentice Teacher Programme 2024

The Nova Pioneer Apprentice Teacher Programme is a highly competitive teacher preparation program. Through hands-on experience in Nova Pioneer schools, mentorship, and tailored professional development, Apprentices develop the skills necessary for leading high-achieving classrooms.

After completing the programme and their studies, Apprentices are great candidates for full-time positions at Nova Pioneer and are very strongly considered for teaching roles that would begin after completion of their studies.
The apprentice programme is 1-2 years in length depending on where you are in your studies and your progression toward competency in the Nova Pioneer teaching approach.
Responsibilities of apprentice teachers:

  • Work collaboratively with resident teacher to deliver impactful and engaging enquiry-based lessons
  • Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth including daily team meetings and reflections, weekly professional development meetings, instructional coaching, and organisation wide learning and reflection
  • Work collaboratively with the resident teacher to conduct ongoing assessment of student progress. Use assessment data to adjust instructional content and delivery techniques accordingly
  • Infuse joy and passion for learning into lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
  • Help to set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide student feedback so they internalize it
  • Attend weekly feedback meetings with resident teachers and Deans to enhance teaching practices
  • Participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees, fulfil supervision duties as assigned including some morning, evening and weekend events

About You
Skills and Qualifications required:

  • We are looking for aspiring teachers who have recently qualified as a teacher or are pursuing one of the following teacher qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education (students studying a part-time BEd will be eligible to participate in the apprentice program only in their final two years of study)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
  • At least provisionally SACE registered
  • You want to build up your teaching practice in an environment that pushes the boundaries when it comes to education and learning
  • You have a growing love for teaching and care deeply about the success of each and every student
  • You have an understanding of and passion for enquiry based, student-centered learning
  • You are a team player and you enjoy group problem solving
  • You are adept at using technology for instruction

More about the programme
The apprenticeship offers a competitive stipend as well as study and examination leave. Apprentices will participate in professional development review points throughout the year and will be assessed against Nova Pioneer’s Career Pathways Competency framework. They must meet the prescribed requirements and may be offered a permanent position if i) a position is available and ii) if they have met the competency requirements to be a resident teacher.
