Two vacancies at Gallery MOMO, Johannesburg
1. Gallery Manager
Gallery MOMO Johannesburg is looking for a full time and experienced Gallery Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will be required to manage and run Gallery MOMO Johannesburg as well as the Artist Residency.
Responsibilities:

  • To supervise the daily maintenance of the gallery and residency space
  • To oversee daily PR on our social media portals
  • To brief the rest of the team on what is required of them for the day
  • To keep track of all emails and requests and correspond appropriately
  • To create all documentation required
  • Setting up of daily reports to feedback to the entire team in JHB and CT
  • To make sure the website & monthly newsletters are accurate and up to date
  • Develop, implement and evaluate marketing strategies
  • Vigilantly look out for copyright infringements
  • Keep track of all invoices, petty cash and update the bookkeeper weekly
  • Check on all artist spreadsheets
  • Create and keep track of all project budgets
  • Setting up visiting artist residencies and providing support while they are here
  • Scheduling of all exhibitions and residencies for the following year
  • Working with both artists and clients and being sensitive to the needs of both, creating a positive environment for all
  • Managing corporate clients and their art collections
  • Working with new and established artists and developing relationships
  • Conducting research on projects and creating proposals
  • Management of Art Fairs, both national and international
  • Management of all projects
  • Management of the creation of artist dossiers and books/catalogues
  • Supervising all exhibitions in the gallery space from inception to wrapping up
  • Making sure the exhibitions are documented for PR and Archival purposes
  • Checking on prices for artworks and negotiating with the artists
  • Running any events at Gallery MOMO from start to finish
  • Supervision of packing, unpacking and shipping of all artworks around the world
  • Supervision of the production of artworks and installations
  • Supervision of the recording and updating of the gallery stock

Requirements:

  • Experience in a heavily administrative role and fine attention to detail
  • Strong Project Management and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to make decisions, show leadership and take initiative without close supervision
  • Eagerness to make a valuable contribution and work in a team
  • Mature, disciplined, reliable, stable and enthusiastic
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 35 years of age


2. PR and Project Manager

Gallery MOMO Johannesburg is looking for a fulltime and experienced PR and Project Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will be required to assist the Gallery MOMO team with the day-to-day running of the gallery, providing administrative support to the Gallery Manager and Directors as well as being involved with Press, Writing, Marketing and Design.
Responsibilities:

  • Work with new and established artists in the MOMO stable and develop strong relationships with them
  • Assist with the implementation, development and evaluation of marketing and public relations strategies and recommend changes in marketing approach appropriate to the business interests of Gallery MOMO
  • Market and promote events and exhibitions
  • Writing and researching of Press Releases for exhibitions at the gallery
  • Designing of all PR material to be sent out to media and clients (Invitations, Press Releases, artist online catalogue etc.)
  • Writing of proposals for potential projects and funding
  • Assist the Director with projects which extend beyond those of Gallery MOMO
  • Maintenance of Gallery Website and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram etc.)
  • Review and edit designs and written communication from the MOMO Cape Town branch
  • Weekly/daily media monitoring
