UCT Graduate School of Business Scholarship
There are a limited number of scholarships/ bursaries available for MBA full time and modular students. Please note that a confirmed place on the programme is a precondition for all funding.
Bertha Centre Scholarships for the MBA and MPhil programmes:
The Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship was established as a specialised unit at the UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB) in 2011, in partnership with Bertha Foundation, a family foundation that works with inspiring leaders who are catalysts for social and economic change.
While the Bertha Foundation supports activists, storytellers and lawyers across the world, who are working to bring about social and economic justice, and human rights for all; the Bertha Centre Scholars at the GSB are part of a larger Bertha Foundation network of “troublemakers/radical actors” whose purpose it is to challenge the status quo for social justice – in this case through social innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Bertha Centre Scholarship covers full or partial costs of a wide variety of programmes at the UCT Graduate School of Business. These include the MBA [both full-time and the modular programme], the MPhil in Inclusive Innovation, and PhD programmes.

MTN Scholarships for the MBA and MPhil programme:
MBA: The Scholarships are open to all successful MBA applicants who have either set up or have been working in entrepreneurial ventures, or those who plan to after the MBA. A demonstrated track record in the technology, media and telecom sector is advantageous. Scholars will be expected to take an entrepreneurial route in their studies, and contribute to the School’s Entrepreneurship or Technology Club.
MPhil: These scholarships were created to support bold and visionary African mid-career professionals and entrepreneurs who are committed to local innovation and for whom a postgraduate qualification is an essential step in their journey of shaping the future of our continent. The overarching mission of the MTN Scholarship programme is to build exceptional leadership capacity in the technology, media and telecom sector, by providing excellent educational and training opportunities to individual Africans with leadership potential, as well as creating over time a network of next generation TMT leaders across the continent.

The Sainsbury Fellowships:
This scholarship is awarded by the Sainsbury Management Fellows’ Society (SA) for South Africans from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who are qualified engineering or science graduates that intend to
a) continue to work in South Africa and
b) continue to work in the engineering or science sectors or related sectors after completing the MBA programme.
Scholarships are either awarded for full-time or modular study and could include full or part funding of the tuition fees. A fully paid for research study to Cambridge University is also available for exceptional candidates that also have a career path mapped with a specific employer in the engineering or science fields.
Molteno Brothers’ Trust Scholarship and Sainsbury Trust Fellowship bursary applicants are required to complete and submit the following Funding Application Form.
Molteno Brothers’ Trust Scholarship
This scholarship is offered to South African MBA students with an agricultural/economics background and the stated intention of working in the agricultural sector. Up to 75% of fees are paid with one student per year benefitting.

Other Scholarships
Limited funding is available for Ph.D students from the UCT Postgraduate Funding Office. Please refer to the UCT website for more information.
South African citizens can approach any major bank as all the major banks can arrange study loans at a reasonable interest rate. You may have to have a guarantor if you are studying full time.
South African citizens can also approach EduLoan for a study loan
US and Canadian citizens may be eligible for their Governments’ funding programmes.
