UJ Acknowledges Future Top Achieving Students

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Grade 12 Orange Carpet event was held on the evening of 11 October 2024, at Auditorium of the University of Johannesburg. 153 Orange Carpet learners across South Africa attended the OC Cocktail Event. This evening allowed these top achievers to interact with the Dean of the faculties and get an insight scoop of how to get ahead at varsity within the respective fields.
The Orange Carpet is one of UJ’s initiatives aimed at acknowledging and rewarding top achievers. This initiative allows top-performing learners early conditional admission to the University as well as to provide them with special benefits. To qualify for these benefits, an applicant must obtain an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 40 with a performance level of 6 or higher in all of his/her Grade 11subjects. Final acceptance with Orange Carpet status, however, is dependent on the applicant maintaining these results in his/her final Grade 12 exams.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Ihron Rensburg shared his pearls of wisdom and wished this year’s orange carpet candidates success with their forthcoming exams and looked forward to them joining UJ’s constant aim to be great. “UJ has spent a lot of time in nurturing a diverse environment and making sure students are enjoying their studies. We have partnered with the Gift of the Givers to feed 8000 students and we want to expand this partnership to add more students in the scheme because we love and care for our students,” said Prof Ihron Rensburg.
Ms Leoné Michaels, Student Marketer said it was exciting to note a more diverse group of applicants who come from all over South Africa this year. “The applicants are not mainly from Gauteng schools but there is a mix of learners from different provinces like KZN.
