University of Limpopo launches Alumni Chapter in Gauteng

The University of Limpopo (UL) added a new chapter in its alumni relations with the launching of the Gauteng Alumni Chapter at a meeting hosted recently in Midrand
The Chapter, attended by hundreds of alumni in the province, is anticipated to bring together many alumni-related activities in the Gauteng Province into a single unit to foster reunion among alumni.
The newly elected Chairperson, Advocate Meshack Thipe says the EXCO will work hard to keep graduates connected to the university and fellow-alumni in the province. “We will study the university’s overall objectives and plan our annual programme accordingly, towards achieving the goals of the institution.”
Thipe completed his LLB degree at UL in 2012. As a Pretoria Bar Council Member and an advocate attached to Pretoria Society of Advocates, says their term of office will be mainly about identifying the needs of the university and garner support among other graduates to meet those needs.
Thabo Thulare was elected as Deputy Chairperson. He is confident that the new EXCO is better positioned to unite alumni who are inactive in terms of their relationship with the university, in the province. Thulare obtained a degree in BSc Medical Sciences in 2011. He currently works as a Clinical Research Associate at Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD).
Treasure Mathebula, Chapter’s Secretary says the most important thing that “we are going to do is to provide meaningful, lifelong opportunities for alumni, engage and stay in touch with the university and impact positively on its livelihood, thus contributing to the success of students and communities.” Mathebula completed his LLB degree in 2013 and currently works as Attorney at Ndobela and Lamola Inc.
Marlene Ngobeni, Chapter’s Treasurer, says the vision of UL – Finding solutions for Africa – should be a point of reference for the Chapter. “We have to unite the old and the newly alumni for the purposes of creating a strong network that will provide mentorship opportunities,” she envisions. Ngobeni completed LLB degree in 2011 and is an Attorney at Molefe Dlepu Attorneys with Right of Appearance in the High Court of South Africa. She is a member of the Law Society Northern Provinces (LSNP) and Black Lawyers Association (BLA).
William Maodi who also forms part of the EXCO, completed his LLB degree in 2011 and currently works as Attorney in the High Court of South Africa attached to Maponya Inc. He is the founding president of the national Black Lawyers Association (BLA) Student Chapter. Currently, he serves on BLA as Deputy Chairperson and he is Head of Policy and Legislation Desk of the Black Business Council Youth.
