West Coast TVET College Grand Opening of the New Campus 2024
Grand Opening of the New Campus
West Coast College established as a FET in 2002, originally rented buildings for the Central Office and the Malmesbury campus after a need for the campus was identified.
At that stage the college did not have enough capital to purchase land or buildings to facilitate this need. In order to achieve this, the college entered into negotiations with the Swartland Municipality who made the land available at a reasonable price.
“As a College, we were relentless in our pursuit of offering excellent education and training to our communities and the lack of adequate buildings did not hinder us,” said Osma Jooste-Mokgethi, CEO of West Coast College. “If anything, it propelled us to work even hard,” she said during her opening speech at the launch of their new buildings last week.
As of today the West Coast TVET College boasts five campuses namely Atlantis, Citrusdal, Malmesbury, Vredenburg and Vredendal, all located within the West Coast Region serving a total population of almost half a million students. Students attending this college come from Du Noon in Cape Town to the far-flung rural areas of Namaqualand in the Northern Cape. The Central Office is located in Malmesbury as well.
The college hosted an amazing event to officially launch the new buildings attended by all our local stakeholders. Guests were treated a red-carpet welcome with singing sensations Robin Pieters, of The Voice SA fame and 2024 Idols SA winner Karin Kortjie providing entertainment.
