White River Sawmills: Broiler and Kilns Foreman (Wet Mill) Job 2024

Suitable External candidates are invited to apply for the foloowing position at a Sawmill in Mpumalanga (Please note these foremen positions are SAWMILLING SPECIFIC Junior positions and are NOT engineering/mining related)
 – Proof of grade 12 school- and other qualification/s required;
 – Supervisor’s Certificate/similar qualification/s e.g. Diploma in Wood Technology and/or relevant “on-the-job” training beneficial;
 – Proven sawmilling experience with references essential minimum 3 years’ experience and 2 years’ supervisory experience;
 – Fluency in English beneficial (Reading, writing and speaking)

  • Good knowledge of wood drying practices and controls;
  • Knowledge of Kiln & Boiler control systems;
  • Knowledge of SANS Standards Advantageous (Structural Board Grading);
  • Knowledge of OHS Act;
  • Computer literate, i.e. MS Excel & Word advantageous;
  • Exposure to Planned Maintenance Systems;
  • Elementary Mechanical and/or Electrical knowledge would be advantageous;
  • Good communication and interpretative skills;
  • Self-motivated, hardworking individual that can work in a team;
  • Ability to analyze, plan, schedule and troubleshoot
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude;
  • Must be prepared to work shifts and/or overtime;
  • Managing all Kiln and Boiler activities;
  • Managing Kiln and Boiler staff requirements, including coaching;
  • Maintaining optimal performance of the boiler and kilns on site.
  • Working closely with the Wet Mill Manager and Technical Manager;
  • Maintain production throughput and quality standards for the above sections;
  • Maintaining safety standards and housekeeping practices;
  • Ensuring the kiln equipment is working within specifications, safely and efficiently;
  • Ensuring quality control measures are met;
  • Identifying and resolving kiln issues and notifying management of causes when identified;
  • Monitoring status of equipment and consumables;
  • Leading and managing a relatively large team, including planning and allocating duties to different employees as well as discipline and development of employees.
