WhizzKids United Internship Opportunity 2024
WhizzKids United (WKU) is a community-based nonprofit working to provide health, educational and empowerment services to disadvantaged youth in Edendale (Pietermaritzburg) South Africa.
This Internship is for someone with an interest in data collection, analysis, and dissemination to work with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer to implement WKU’s new M&E strategy which includes assessment of existing data, leading data analysis, and communicating M&E results to both internal and external stakeholders.
Duration of Internship: This position is short term and best suited for higher level education students seeking work experience during their winter holidays.
WhizzKids United is currently undergoing changes to its monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system as it moves from a paper-based to electronic database.
The organisation requires an individual with an interest in data collection, analysis, and dissemination to work with the M&E Officer to implement WKU’s new M&E strategy which includes assessment of existing data, leading data analysis, and communicating M&E results to both internal and external stakeholders.
The intern will be responsible for supporting the M&E team to create dashboards and tools to support the validation, analysis, and communication of both quantitative and qualitative data. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for building capacity among existing staff for data analysis, primarily through Microsoft Excel.
The Intern must be highly motivated with organisational, analytical, and communication skills.
The candidate must be able to work on a team, identify basic problems as they arise, independently seek out basic resources or solutions, and have a commitment to seeing the empowerment of others.
The intern will report directly to the Head of Operations at WKU.
Responsibilities:
- Reorganising and redesigning current data collection processes
- Designing tools, primarily in Excel, to streamline data aggregation and analysis
- Developing dashboards and other visual tools for data communication
- Working with the M&E team to ensure M&E systems align with grant reporting requirements
- Capacity building of staff in the use of Excel and other Microsoft Office programs as needed
Requirements:
- Minimum two years’ tertiary education
- Analytical skills and interest in data communication
- Organisational and problem solving skills
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Ability to work in a team
- Passion for learning and developing new skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (in English)
- Meticulous work ethic and strong attention to detail
Advantages
