WITS University Postgraduate School bursaries or scholarship
Postgraduate (PG) Bursaries and Scholarships A graduate student intending to register for full-time or part-time PG study may be eligible for a PG merit award or a PG financial aid package (only Honours students) consisting of part bursary-part government loan (NSFAS). To apply for the PG merit award please access the self-service portal www.wits.ac.za/mywits to fill in an online application.

Closing dates for the PG merit award:
31 October prior to the aid year you would like to study in if you intend to register in January or April.
30 April of the year you intend to study in if you are registering in July or September of that year.
PG NSFAS applicants are to apply online directly to NSFAS as of 1 August 2026 www.nsfas.org.za
- Students who have signed loan agreement forms (LAF) for 2026 and are currently receiving NSFAS do not have to reapply. Funding will be granted provided you meet the academic requirements
- Students previously funded by NSFAS and are not funded in 2026 must apply online
- Students never funded by NSFAS must apply online
- Currently funded students are requested to update their information online. Go to nsfas.org.za to create a MyNSFAS account to verify your details.
Already submitted a NSFAS Application to Wits?
Applicants who have already submitted their NSFAS applications to Wits do not need to reapply. The University will send your application directly to NSFAS. Further information will follow.
Wits Student Enrolment Centre will not be accepting any further applications as from 1 August 2026. All NSFAS applications can be sent via email to apply@nsfas.org.za or by post to: The 2026 Online Applications, NSFAS Contact Centre, Private Bag X4, Plumstead, 7801, Cape Town.

Other bursaries/scholarships are available. A University PG merit award or postgraduate financial aid package alone is not sufficient to cover the costs of students’ living expenses. Heads of academic schools should be approached to discuss alternative sources of funding.
