About the Position
SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Road Maintenance Supervisor to join our team based in Carnarvon, Northern Cape. The successful incumbent is responsible for supervising road construction and maintenance crews on SARAO property.
Minimum education requirement:

  • Grade: 12
  • Valid EC vehicle license (Professional Driving Permit)
  • Valid certificate to operate a Grader/Backhoe/Loader (essential)

Minimum work experience required:

  • Five years ‘experience coupled with a minimum of 2 years’ experience at supervisory level performing roadway, roadside, bridge or sign maintenance

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Supervising the execution of maintenance activities on the roads infrastructure
  • Responsible for effective resource allocation, including staff, equipment and plant
  • Providing input to the Site Technician for budget issues
  • Directing the activities and monitoring of subordinates
  • Providing training, guidance and encouragement to assigned roads crews
  • Ensuring of road equipment regularly maintained
  • Performing of other responsibilities as required or assigned

Experience in:

  • mechanical repair
  • operating road maintenance equipment

Knowledge of:

  • general equipment safety
  • maintenance and operation of common hand tools
  • field safety regulations
  • weed and pest control
  • fundamental construction and maintenance procedures
  • modern road maintenance and methods
  • thorough working knowledge of road works equipment operation
