DBE – Gauteng Department of Education (GDE)
The Head of Department for the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) commenced his service on 1November 2024. This role is primarily responsible for the overall management of the Department, in conjunction with serving as an Accounting Officer. Previously, he led as Deputy – Director General: Curriculum Management and Delivery at GDE. Mosuwe managed 15 independent education districts located in the 3 regions of the Department which in turn administrate over 2000 schools in the province. In this regard, he was responsible for a budget of R1.7 billion of GDE’s budget. The HoD chaired the ICT Task
Team which is accountable for implementation of the classroom of the future project that cost R1.2 billion in the 2024/25 financial year. To date, the project has been successfully implemented in 7 pilot schools and 377 others with Grade 12. It will further be accomplished in 11 other schools at the beginning of the 2024 school year.
He previously officiated as Senior General Manager (Deputy Director-General) for Curriculum Management and Delivery, in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education. In this position, Mosuwe oversaw the management and delivery of curriculum (teaching as well as learning programmes) in over 6000 schools in the KZN province. During this time,
the HoD achieved the improvement of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations from 68% in 2011 to 77.4% in 2013.
