The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is the professional organisation for Registered Dietitians. The primary aims of the Association are to serve the interests of Dietitians in South Africa and promote the nutritional well-being of the community.
ADSA’s VISION: To represent and develop the dietetic profession to contribute towards achieving optimal nutrition for all South Africans.
ADSA’s MISSION: As the registered professionals in the field of dietetics and nutrition we support and promote the continued growth of the profession of dietetics in South Africa.

ADSA’s eleven branches provide dietitians with the opportunity to meet and network with other professionals in their provinces. ADSA assists in the development of the dietetic profession through its comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) System. The association is working towards achieving optimal nutrition for all South Africans.
It is also important to note that ADSA is a registered not-for-profit organization (NPO) and unlike counterparts abroad, ADSA executive and branch committee portfolio holders work on a completely voluntary basis1 and are not remunerated for services rendered. In another departure from some of its peers internationally, ADSA does not endorse any products or services. Further ADSA members, are bound by the ethical rules of the health professions regulator, the HPCSA.
The only exception is the position of President, where a monthly honorarium of R5 000 is allocated for travel, accommodation, cell phone costs, etc.

ADSA is also a member of the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA), an Association created to encompass most National Dietetic Association’s worldwide. ICDA represents about 150,000 dietetics professionals around the world. For more information about the ICDA, click here to visit their website.
ADSA has won the bid to host the 18th ICDA 2024 Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. We look forward to this great privilege as well as hosting many international health care professionals and registered dietitians.
