ABOUT THE BURSAR

National Arts Council of SA Bursary South Africa : The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) aim to promote the free expression of cultures in South Africa, though arts. The NAC are managed by the Department of Arts and Culture and are responsible for the development of the creative industry in the country, by awarding grants to both organisations and individuals within the arts faculty.

ABOUT THE BURSARY – National Arts Council of SA Bursary South Africa

Bursaries will be awarded to students within the Arts faculty, within the following fields:

  • Dance
  • Theatre/ Drama
  • Music
  • Multi-disciplinary
  • Visual Arts
  • Craft
  • Literature

There are 2 types of bursaries:
1) Block Institutional bursaries – for Undergraduate studies
These bursaries must be applied for by Institutional heads of department, for their undergraduate students. Applications received from student directly will not be considered.
2) Individual bursaries – for Postgraduate studies
Students must apply directly to the NAC.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • Studying towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study.

The following supporting documents must accompany your complete application form:
Institutional Bursary (undergraduate):

  • ID document (certified copy, no older than 3 months old),
  • Course outline,
  • Fee structure,
  • Annual academic report,
  • Students banking details,
  • Current student intake results,
  • Student selection criteria,
  • Tax clearance certificate,
  • Audited financial statement.

Individual Bursary (postgraduate):

  • ID document (certified copy, no older than 3 months old),
  • Academic transcript/ record,
  • Proof of acceptance by tertiary institution,
  • Course outline,
  • Fee structure,
  • Tertiary institutions banking details,
  • Students banking details,
  • Detailed CV,
  • 2 reference letters,
  • Students proof of income (payslips/ affidavit if unemployed),
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (payslips/ affidavit if unemployed).

 

CLOSING DATE

There are 2 bursary intakes each year:
28 February annually,
9 September annually.
