Library Assistant: Acquisitions and Collection Development
Requirements:
 A minimum of matric or Grade 12.
 Computer literacy.
 Experience in the use of integrated library system particularly the Acquisitions module.
 Understanding of the use of bibliographic data in the acquisitions process.
 Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy with ability to work under pressure.
 Effective team and independent worker with good filing skills.
 Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and customer relations skills.
 Proficient with figures.
 Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
 Preparedness to do shelving and shelf reading and to work night and weekend shifts.
 Preparedness to help or do other duties as required.
Duties:
 Do bibliographic checking and verify details of incoming recommendations.
 Using a library System for acquisition procedures.
 Check materials received against order records and invoice information.
 Ensure accurate attribution of financial commitment and expenditure to appropriate funds.
 Do verification of invoices for payment of received materials.
 Monitor orders for non-supply and initiate claims for unfulfilled orders.
 Liaise with academics and subject librarians.
 Contribute to the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date acquisitions database.
 Communicate with the departments regarding recommended titles.
 Receive, sort out and dispatch incoming mail.
 Compile reports and keep and maintain recorded statistical data.
 Work shifts on a rotational basis at the Client Services
